finaly a comparison that makes sense..I would have to go with Stockton after carefull evauation...my head wanted to say Nash but after checking the stats its gotta be Stockton........this because in his best years stocktons assits were like 14 per game ...while points might not have been as good because stockton had the Mailman to go to Nash has taken on more of a scoring role with his teams...so all things considered I would prefer that my point gaurd pass first and score second and stockton was a killer at assist.

John Stockton was a great point guard. He had amazing court vision and a great jump shot. The one, two punch that was him and Karl would have won championships if it wasn't for Michael. As much as I love the way Stockton plays he is no where close to Steve Nash. Steve Nash seems to sometimes have total control. He is the only play maker I have seen that can score almost at will. Stockton could never score like Nash can now. As far as passing ability I'd say it's a draw, but Nash, when asked to, can put up 30 points on any given night. I would pick Nash for my team. Look what he has done for the Suns, he has grouped a bunch of role players and backups and made it to the Western finals. Almost everyone on his team has career highs in points. Not a coincidence.

I'd pick John Stockton. He's a living legend and led his team to the Finals twice. Plus, he's no.1 on the all time assists list. Nash is 32 and is past his prime. He's only going to have 2 more seasons left in him. Sure, he's won MVP two years in a row, but I'd have to go with the wise Stockton.

If you look at the stats...I'm supposed to pick Nash because of the 2 MVP Awards. But NO...I'm picking John "22" Stockton over him. My reason? Its like this...nowadays, basketball is the littleman's game. Meaning guards and forwards are ruling all the stat sheets. Unlike Stockton's time wherein basketball was all about the big man in the middle and he was able to make a name for himself even if that was the case. Comparison between the 2....NONE. One plays Run and Gun while the other plays Half Court Sets.

I pick Stockton due to the fact that he did it consistently for the number of years and since he was in the Jordan and Magic, and Bird era's he never really could get the recognition. But he was nice. Nash is nice too but Stockton did it longer.

Tough question!
Stockton was the best assist man there ever was, but thinking about it...
If you break down their games, Nash is a better scorer and therefore better able to spread a defense. He is also tougher, scrappier.
Interesting that both attended mid-major West Coast schools - Gonzaga and Santa Clara. They really learned how to make their teammates better. Both have done that as well as any.
But, because of the toughness, because of broader game, I prefer Nash.
