My wife and I just got back from a three week vacation where we both got hooked on a Nintendo GameCube Game called Crystal Caravans.

It involves Co-operative play 'hack and slash' RPG elements, and does NOT have the final fantasy battle system, which my wife hates because of the limited 2 player mode... we are looking for a 'cartoony' 2 player RPG game that we can play together.

Before someone says 'go buy a gamecube' Crystal caravans would cost me 100$ for the game cube, $20 for the game, and $200 for two game boys to play with... Ill just stick with my playstation.

We have both of the Baulder's Gate Dark Alliance games, but she doesnt like those because they are not 'cartoony'...

So we are looking for game suggestions...

Elements to include are:

#1: 2 player co-operative RPG play.
#2: Cartoony feel
#3: No 'final fantasy' style battle system
#4: LONG game play, 50+ hours.
#5: Lots of Character development, and if possible customization.

Any suggestions?

I am not going to lie to you, what you are asking for is a difficult find. There are the Gauntlet games but they might not have the cartoon feel you are looking for. There are two Everquest games with different subtitles but commonly known as the Champions series, but again, they might not be cartoony enough. The main stumbling block will be the two player co-op. If not for that, I could recommend any number of games. There is one called Shining Tears. Another is Digimon World 4. I would like to add that I haven't tried the multiplayer facets of either of these last two games so I cannot guarantee anything. In addition, if you go to www.gamefly.com you can browse their selection for yourself without joining their program. If you choose to do so, I would recommend looking in the action/adventure genre as well. You might find some good games of the sort you are looking for there.

Don't diss the FF battle system. The older games are different and some offer 2 player style. Try the time splitters series, or x-men legends. X-men is great fun and you get to customize their powers and it has a cartoonish feel.
