Best baseball team ever may be the 1961 New York Yankees, which was the year Roger Maris broke Babe Ruth's home run record. Mantle had 54 of his own homers. The team won 109 games, which at the time was the second-most ever in MLB history. They hit 240 homers, which is the record for any team playing without a DH. The team could hit for average, hit for power, run, field and the pitching was great behind Whitey Ford, who was the Cy Young winner. Maris won the MVP.

I'm agreeing with Scotty, the 1927 Yankees. They finished with a 110-44 record, 19 games ahead of the second place A's. Swept the 94-win Pirates in the World Series in four games. And let's not overlook the talent on a team that included Lou Gehrig, Rogers Hornsby, Bill Terry, Waite Hoyt, and Wilcy Moore. Oh, I forgot to mention Babe Ruth and his 60 HRs that season.

I would have to say the late 1980's Mets (respectively '85 and '86). They had amazing chemistry and when they took the field, they knew they would win. I am surprised at how they only won one world series.
