got my quote and it says the house is 14.40SQ...and my garage is 8.0 SQ....now i know my house and garage are way bigger then this...how are they figuring it

You are entitled to use the contractor of your choice when dealing with an insurance claim. Call a couple of reputable roofers and get an estimate before you sign any settlement with the insurance company. Then you will know that the adjusters numbers are correct.

By the way, the numbers you give mean that the roof of your house is 1,440 square feet. This would be about right for a gabled roof ranch house of 1,248 square feet of living area (26'x48). Your garage would be 800 square feet of roof, which is about right for a two car garage.

A SQ=Square of Shingles which is 10 feet by 10 feet. So 8 SQ will cover 80 feet by 10 feet. Or, 800 square feet.
