"Gattaca" with Ethan Hawke. It is a beautiful movie that needs to be watched by everyone, especially as we continue to develop genetic technologies.

Things to Come, early thirties with Raymod Massey and Ralph Richardson. Or my sentimental favorite, Robt. Wise's The Day the Earth Stood Still.

The Matrix Trilogy.

Magnificent special effects and screenplay!
The story line was great as well even though the last of the installment did not exactly meet my expectation. But overall I think the producer is a genius to have shot this film.

i'd agree that Forbidden Planet is up there along with the origianal War of the Worlds just because of the great leaps they made with the look and effects...i.e. the whole feeling they portray.

as far as being really uncomfortably 'futuristic', David Lynch's "Dune" was very dark and disturbing imho.
