Gem-quality diamonds are now being grown in laboratories in places like Sarasota, Fla., and Boston. Forget cubic zirconia and Moissanite, which are made to pass as diamonds. Lab-grown stones are the real deal. And instead of the millions of years it takes to create natural diamonds, they're grown by man in a matter of days.

The "best" fake diamond is actually a MOISONITE. This is a relatively new thing on the jewelry scene. It looks like a diamond and actually can TEST like a diamond (unless the jeweler has a new, higher tech diamond tester) and is about 1/4 the price of a diamond. If you want the best "fake", def go with the moisonite.

If I can't afford a diamond - I just buy the best looking costume jewellery - it looks great and it's a lot of fun. I've got accessories for every outfit! I still love my diamonds and pearls, but have them locked away and wear the other stuff all the time.

I wouldn't recommend purchasing a fake diamond especially if it's for a wedding ring or engagement ring but if you insist I think the next best substitute is at QVC.com their diamonique collection is very pretty.
