Nascar is growing in popularity thanks to all the corporate sponsorship. It does have a large following among the people you mention, but is becoming mainstream. I think it would be a blast to drve one of those cars, but personally, I find it boring to watch on TV. It's probably best appreciated live.

No. There aren't that many "redneck" or "back woods" type of people in the USA. However, it is one of the most-watched and popular events in North America, which is why it earns so much air time on TV and why it earns so much money. I'm sure some of the fans are "redneck" or from the "back woods," but I'm sure every sport has those fans. By the way, those terms are politically incorrect.

Read the text below then decide for yourself.;))
The National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR) is the largest sanctioning body of motorsports in the United States. The three largest racing series sanctioned by NASCAR are the NEXTEL Cup, the Busch Series and the Craftsman Truck Series. It also oversees seven regional series and one local grassroots series. NASCAR sanctions over 1,500 races at over 100 tracks in 38 states, Canada, and Mexico. In 1996, 1997 and 1998 NASCAR also held exhibition races in Japan. Australia held one race in 1988 and Neil Bonnett won.
Beginning as regional entertainment in the Southeastern U.S., NASCAR has grown to become the second most popular professional sport in terms of television ratings inside the U.S., ranking behind only the National Football League.

I love NASCAR and that is danged ole stupidest thing I have ever heard. LOL No silly, It all stems back to the fact its roots are in the south. NASCAR and racing in general was started back in the days of bootlegging booze. They need fast cars to get from point a to point b fast and avoid and out run police. So boys
will be boys and they started racing. It just so happens that stock car racing is centered in the south, and so are many of its followers. hope this clears things up a bit.

From my experience both redneck and back wood types love Nascar. They also tend to like classic rock, mullets, wallet chains, guns, and seldom read anything other than a news papers or magazines. They also tend to be a little "slower". Slower people tend to get real riled up over loud engines and things that go boom.
In conclusion - they scare me.

Alot of people get into Nascar but there probably are alot of reasons they get into that sport. I personally noticed that it seems like most people from the south are into it rather than from Northern states.
You know your a redneck when the only channel your direct tv picks up is the racing channel :)

Not anymore, it is a generic boring socialism experiment. All teh cars are identical except for the little tricks NASCAR chooses to allow certain teams to do to get the advantage. It isn't racing, it is socialism on wheels.
