Right now I'm installing a ceiling fan, a medallion under it and a coffered ceiling in my family room. I mostly like wrought iron, painting and woodworking projects. I'd like to learn how to weld so I can make wrought iron furniture myself. But, I've been a do-it-yourselfer for most of my life, I just wish they would make power tools a little lighter and with a little smaller grip. The only thing I don't do is repair appliances, got a well used extended warranty on those.

With more single women buying homes, than men now, it's obvious that they have to learn to do it yourself. Just for the reason of economy. Hiring someone, can be very expensive for those little jobs, that always need doing around the house.
I suggest, you watch, 'Tool Belt Diva' on Discovery Home Channel, to see what some ladies can do.
My sister is a single home owner, and I have been able to talk her through small repairs, over the phone.
Besides saving her money, she was as proud as Punch, to have done it herself. Gave her confidence to tackle other stuff.
I just bought her a tool box and a few new tools and some of my old ones, so that at least, she will have what she needs when the need arises.
Some of the bigger jobs, I do for her, but she tackles most of them on her own now. Which is great, she has a great feeling of accomplishment.

My dad was a carpenter and I always Wanted to help. I just got done remodeling my house. Textured all the walls , took up carpet and put in laminate wood floors, redesigned and replaced all cabinets in kitchen and moved the refrigerator which required running new electrical and water lines. Had to get my husband to help hang wall cabinets cause its a two person job but paid him back by helping him build a 40 x 50 shop. Also replaced all the base and crown moulding. I just like the satisfaction of doing stuff myself and the cost savings is amazing.

We do more projects because we can and sometimes have to. It's gratifying to replace the toilet yourself(even if it took 5 hrs!) Repair the car, change the oil, the brakes. Clear your own building lot, then chip it all. Independence and self confidence are wonderful things. After all of that you sleep great! But I agree with the power tool size issues, so maybe someone is listening!

My husband comes from a family of non- diyer's. I am from a family of definate diyer's. If I cant do it I will pay to have it done, but only if I absolutely can not. So far I have put vynil floor in my kitchen, a new tile surround on my tub and am contemplating wood floors when we get the cash.
I can also tune-up the lawn mower, have changed an alternator in my car, put together a gas grill and hung a garage door opener by myself.
Independence is the spice of life!

I was sick for a couple of months and couldn't do much except watch TV. I started watching do it yourself channels and learned how to tile, build furniture, fix plumbing. There is nothing more empowering then having a problem or wanting something and being able to fix it or make it yourself. You save money and get more confidence to tackle greater projects.

I'm a female do-it-yourselfer! I love just about any project. I'm currently working on my kitchen. I've stripped the outdated wallpaper and I'm painting the oak cabinets an almond color with a coffee bean colored glaze...putting on new hardware. Painting the walls a sage green color. Going to tile the backsplash with tumbled marble tile, rip up the tile flooring and replace it with new tile.

I have always done my own projects. Right now I'm tackling my frig... It went out on me yesterday and I have ordered parts to replace the defroster. It's only 3 years old but hey, it saves me the service call. I do plumbing, electrical, painting, re-furbishing, & dry wall. I have even stripped and re-varnished hard wood floors. Why you ask??? Well, it not only saves money it self grafifying...

I am definitely a do-it-yourselfer. Last year remodeled the kitchen. New floor, cabinets and countertops. Took 4 months, but worth every penny. This year I am putting in the ceramic tile.
Also, love my scrollsaw.
