P4 is the standard chip
Celeron is the cheap version of the chip
Xeon is the expensive version and is mainy used for network servers.
General use, the Celeron or P4 are just fine. If price is of concern, go with the Celeron. Performance is less than the P4 chip, but for everyday general use, it is not a significant difference.

Basically the Pentium 4 is the better processor. Now the Celeron doesn't suck its just not recommeded if you want to do things like graphic design or 3d rendering. Its basically comes down to what you can afford. Pentium 4 will be more expensive then the Celeron. IF you do go with the Celeron, try and get a Celeron D at 2.8Ghz or higher with at least 1Gig of ram, and try to avoid onboard 3d. Overall the Sempron would probably give you the best price to preformance ratio

Pentium 4 would be fine for what you intend to do. Make sure you pay attention to the specifications provided by the games for processor speed, video card, and RAM, as these are the three biggest factors for the casual/semi-casual gamer (office and web browsing will work fine on just about any P4 system, though I believe if you're running the latest version of Office 512 MB of RAM is highly recommended)

It depends on what quality you're looking for.
Pentium 4 is on it's way out. Although it'll do you just fine for a nice price.
Celeron is like the cheapest of the cheap quality for processors. I don't recommend it unless you're a penny-pincher and you could care less about quality.
Xeon is more for servers due to it's features. With your use, building a server isn't what you need to do so save yourself the problems and money and go for Pentium 4 or greater.

Celeron is Ancient technology.
I recommend an AMD processor, they are much more affordable and often over-power intel based systems.

It depends on what you use your computer for... Pentium 4 is a pretty good basic processor for most applications though.
