The person got injured but didn't know how serious it was, until they went to the docters. When they went to the docters, after the the injury did not go away, they found out it was worst then they expected, and no they need major sergery.

You are supposed to report it to your employer, he is supposed to take you to a clinic the employer uses for work related injuries. If the employer does not report it and give the employee a copy, then the employee should report it as soon as possible to the state.

Look up your state's worker's compensation statute on the internet. There will be a provision about time limits in reporting claims. There may be an extention when the injury is not reasonably discovered until later.

Most states require that you report within 48 hours.

You report it to your employer, it is up to them to report to the Workers Comp Commission for your state and I'm sure it varies from state to state.

File the paper work, person didn't know injured till doctor told him.
