Maybe they stopped or are now doing it less because back when they had intermissions in films putting the end was a way to let everyone know that it is in fact the end and not an intermission.

Some movies still put "the end" on the end. There are several reasons they don't though. Sometimes because they may be thinking about a sequel. Sometimes they just decide not to. Alot of the times, it isn't necessary. There have always been movies without the "the end." As long as they make them, they will or won't have it. Just like life, there are never any guarantees

When "The End" was replaced with "To Be Continued."
Sequelitis is an incurable disease that has infected Hollywierd and can only be allowed to run its course.
We're the ones who have to suffer, though.
Dang, the first Matrix is still among my favorite movies. The second and third were purest dreck that cheapened the original.
And this happens over and over and over.
