You can look for metal bands by yourself. Why do u need us to tell you whats cool? Dont listen to some music just because it fashionable or you'll lose your self esteem in the process.
Not being nasty for the sake of it I just think over-conformity dosent do anyone any favours
Does it matter if they are in fashion or not? If its fashion you want- then I would suggest metal is going out of fashion!
Just listen you whatever the hell you want to!The great thing about genuinely liking something is you wont need it to be in fashion before giving it a chance.
I often wonder when models say "I love clothes" but wear only exactly whats in fashion and if its new, I wonder if they actually do. Surely if you loved something you'd want to actually indulge your own tastes?

Popular nu metal bands (not any I would necessarily recommend) in America are Lamb of God, Chimaira, 3 Inches of Blood, Slipknot, Children of Bodom (Swedish, I believe), Underoath, As I Lay Dying, System of a Down,The Black Dahlia Murder, Rob Zombie, etc.
However, the real treasure lies in the older Metal, which has had a large contribution from English Metal bands; if I were you, I would check out these bands, but most certainly not neglect the older, better bands.
