According to two different doctors, Chiropractor and a physician, cracking your joints is nothing more than the sound the fluid makes when it passes through, cerebro-spinal fluid I believe but don't quote me on that. The only harm that comes from 'cracking' your knuckles and other joints is when you must force them to get a 'crack'. Otherwise it's relatively harmless.

There are no health risks (unless you annoy the wrong people). The cracking sound comes from the release of dissolved air inside the joint fluid.

There has been a myth that it will cause arthritis. This is nothing more than a myth. I saw it on MythBusters. They said there are absolutely no health risks.

I'm not sure, but reading your question made me want to crack my neck, too! It's a tricky habit to break. I think you almost have to develope a habit to take its place. Good luck with this one.
