I am six weeks pregnant and I receive physical therapy for my right knee. They used an ultrasound machine which sends waves to your knee and they use this other machine which is for motivating your muscles, everything is put on the knee for 10 minutes, by concern is that before I found out that I was pregnant I had them use these machines.. Could this had affected by baby? Has anyone ever gone through the same thing?

These items will not effect your baby providing the therapy is contained to just your knee. The ultrasound uses directed waves which penetrate the muscles in a directed manner and do not spread throughout your whole body. As for the "machine which is for motivating your muscles"(an E-stim btw, electrical stimulator, or TENS depending on manufacture or technician you ask) it too is focused through the use of the pads that they attach to you. Electricity(low current) flows through the pads via your muscle tissues and is contained within the path between those pads.

p.s. The people that said that this is the same as having a sonogram are wrong. The therapy ultrasound and the imaging ultrasound are two completely different machines, and use a completely different bandwidth of ultrasound waveform to accomplish their task... the therapy ultrasound could(and I say this not to freak you out, but just to show what bad information some people are giving) have a negative effect on a developing child if it was directed at your belly..

You should be okay. Alot of mothers do things they reccommend you don't when they are first pregnant. I had an x-ray at 6 weeks and I didn't know. Some people don't know they are pregnant until then. If you are really concerned talk to your doctor. He may send you for an early ultrasound. It is still really early anyway to tell, but I am sure everything is ok.

well ultrasound is used in pregnancy so that should be fine. Is the other machine one that electrically stimulates the muscles? a tens unit or something? If so i dont see how that would hurt the baby. but if you are worried just ask your doctor.

You're fine, these machines will not affect your baby. If fact they will use the ultrasound machine later on so you can see your baby while it's still in your womb.

Ask the OB/GYN. Just my suggestion. Being of the male persuasion, I haven't gone through this, and my wife was lucky enough not to have either.
This was just the first thing that came to mind.

If it was a TENS unit for the stimulation of muscles, it should have no affect on the baby. But, by all means, ask your OB-GYN!

I think it very unlikely that this could have an effect on the baby. Xrays yes. Ultrasound no.

I dont believe so, they use the same ultrasound technology to view the baby in the womb.

First of all congratulations! You shouldn't have anything to worry about, but it's always a good idea to mention it to your Dr. for the peace of mind. Good luck!
