To be honest, the shirt color matters more than the suit color! You want to be sure your tie "bounces" well off the shirt. If you're just going with a white shirt then I would say a red tie or red patterned tie would be great. However, with a white shirt you can get away with ANY color, whichever you feel most comfortable in would be best.

Any more, a bit of color says that the man is bold, sure of himself and unafraid. Try to coordinate the tie color with the color or colors of the shirt. (please tell me you are NOT wearing a white shirt with the grey suit). Light blue dress shirt, a dark tie with blue stripes or pattern. Maroon shirt, red tie or red stripes/pattern.

If the pinstripes are of a distinct color, try not to match the tie color too closely, UNLESS you plan to wear a very neutral, subdued tone shirt.

If you want to make a definite statement, consider a black shirt, black or charcoal tie with itty bitty color accents on the tie.

A grey pinstrip suit is very, very cool, so you almost cant go wrong unless you wear loud socks and running shoes.

A perfect tie would have to be burgundy, because of the pin stripes make it a solid color of burgundy, it looks awesome for dark and blond hair, if you are a red head go for a darker grey color.....

black is very sophisticated, if it's a city wedding.
You'd be suprised how nice a yellow tie looks with a gray shirt, and you can't go wrong with red. Balance out the neutral color with something not so neutral.
