You'll be surprised later from what you've learned. Never too old to learn more about being "comfortable" in and around water.
Classmates younger? Get a friend to join you, or ignore them...they'll adore you for it! Show no fear, have courage, and you'll be their idol!!

Some High Schools have a Swimming Course in P.E. perhaps they could be handy somehow.

Is it possible to use the money for lessons (unless their free) to rent a pool to practice in instead of having to be tutored.

What your mom says is true there is always room for improvement. Maybe you could convince some of your friends to also sign up, so that you all could hang out with the little kids together. Another possibility is talking a more grown up swimming class. There are adults who can't swim so don't think it is only little kids who need classes on swimming. Perhaps you can find a more mature class.

Well, your Mom is right. There is always room for improvement.! Practice makes Perfect. When I was your age, I went to swimming lessons everyday. The better you get, the more they will advance you. At 14 I was competing in swim meets. And when I was 17, I was a swim instructor for beginners. It was very rewarding. Who knows! If you really like the sport, and get really competitive, there's always the Olympics! You can never reach to high with your goals in life. Make your Mom happy, try it for a couple weeks. See what happens. Good Luck!

Jenny, your mom is right. The better you swim the safe you will be in the water. If you're as good as you say you are then maybe you'll be tested and moved to an advanced class. Here's something to look forward to when you get older, if you continue with your lessons. Once you've taken the highest class they teach and you are old enough, you could become a life guard at the pool or beach. You would have to train to be a life guard. It's a great summer job to look forward to when you are a teenager.

Swimming lessons are in my eyes a life skill. Life skills are important and could save your life or the life of someone else in years to come.

You should take the opportunity to learn as much as you can and practice your life skills all the time.

This is probably why your Mom wants you to take swim lessons. She loves you and wants to make sure that you are prepared for everything.

In my house, swim lessons are not an option, I have made them mandatory until my children are 14 years old. Then if they don't want to continue, they don't have too, but if they do, then they can. No negoitating will change this rule which I think is fair.

Dance, gymnastics, hockey, etc, those are all optional.

I am the father of a 6 year old girl. I am really old :). When I was young, I did not take swim classes. Now that my daughter is taking classes, I am taking classes too. Because of lessons, she has become a very good swimmer.

It is not embarrassing because to take classes because I want to keep up with my daughter at least for a little while longer :).

You will not be with the "little kids", even if you are signed up for one of those classes.
At ALL pools, they make sure that the kids are in the correct class , for their ability. They will test you out on the first day. You will do swimming for the teacher. You will notice that throughout the class, kids in the class will go to different classes. This is because it will make it harder on the teacher. It is easier on the teacher if all of the students are at the same level. The parents also appreciate this moving around because it means that their child is better able to learn.

First, you may study the large difference between the words, "NO" and "understand" that you may symbolize your self as human being who can make a rational and wise determination about no matter if you may study a thanks to swim or no longer. Then evaluate that quicker or later on your existence you'd be in a project the position you may be in a position to swim. at the same time as that project arises (which ability occurs), and also you do not drown with the aid of swim instructions your father imposed upon you, call your Dad up and thank him for saving your existence by ability of making you're taking instructions. Liking swimming or no longer, in reality an entire fool does no longer how you may swim.

Swimming lessons are cool, youngun!
You may know how to swim really well, but do you know how to really swim well in open water, like the ocean or a lake? Do you know how to do rescue breathing and how to save someones life who is drowning?
When you take Swimming lessons, you not only learn how to swim, they teach you all this other things as well. Someday it may come as a big life-saver for you.
Also you will not be with little kids as they group you into your age group to teach you swim lessons. Take them you'll appreciate them someday!

Learning to swim is very important.. even when you think you can swim very well, if you mom wants to put you in swim lessons make sure she finds one that is appropriate to your level.. and tell her that

and also.. when you go to the pool with your friends, you can show off a little bit and make them wish they had taken classes!
