Exact reasons behind why women menstruate remain unclear... But it helps in reproduction.
Menstruation is a very complicated process involving many different hormones, the woman's sex organs and the brain.
A woman's internal sex organs consist of 2 ovaries, the Fallopian tubes, the uterus (womb) and the vagina. The ovaries contain the eggs with which the woman is born and, during each period, a single egg will usually ripen and mature due to the action of hormones circulating in the bloodstream.
When the egg is mature it bursts from the ovary and drifts through the Fallopian tube down into the uterus. The lining of the uterus (the endometrium) has been thickened by the action of hormones and made ready to receive the fertilized egg.
If the egg is fertilized and the woman becomes pregnant, it will fasten itself onto the endometrium. -You will not have a period.
If the egg is not fertilized, however, resultant hormonal changes cause the endometrium to slip away and menstruation begins.
Menstrual discharge is composed of the endometrium, together with a little fresh blood caused by the breaking of very fine blood vessels within the endometrium as it detaches itself from the inside of the uterus.

Periods are your body's way of preparing the lining of the uterus for the possiblity of a baby. If you don't get pregnant, the lining sheds and the whole, wonderful (not) process starts again for the next month.

I sure as hell hope you are male, cause if you are female, your parents have done a really piss poor job. Women have to sluff off the inner lining of the uterus monthly in order to cleanse themselves. This rids their bodies of toxins, and make the whole reproductive cycle possible. Periods are nasty, but they are a must.

The fact is that having your period, also called menstruation, is a sign that you're growing up. It means that your body is healthy and normal.
Starting to menstruate is one of the changes that happen to girls when they begin puberty. The changes may begin when you're eight or they may not begin until you are in your mid-teens. Everyone is different and our bodies change at different rates and at different times.

Because if we did'nt this world would be totally overpopulated. Technically a periond is just the shedding if the lining of the uterus that would have been used to support a baby's growth if an egg was implanted. hope that helps.
