About 70% of the world-wide usage of water is in irrigation. Another 15% is industrial usage, like being used as a coolant in power plants. Another 15% is used by households. It is estimated that by the year 2025 much of the world will be facing a water shortage crisis.

Also when water evaporates over the oceans, like a hurricane or tropical storm, and then hits land it dumps freshwater on land that started out as saltwater. Also when a person drinks water all day they still excrete a substance that is 90% water, animals too, maybe half the amount or more that he or she drank.

I am being misunderstood. The USA and Europe and Russia, according to the picture at the link, will not run out of water. It's places in the middleast and Africa that will be suffering from a water shortage crisis. The water will still be on the planet, they just won't have any to drink. The water won't be able to get there. Thank you to the person two boxes up that pointed out this answer could be misunderstood.

In about 5 billions years when the Sun turns into a Red Giant.

That said, you ought to revisit your middle school earth science class to study the hydrologic cycle. The Earth over the last 4.5 billion years has gained H20 enough to fill oceans. Prior to 2.5 billion years ago very little water was on the planet.

As far as the dope smoking whining babies that cry about clean water they've not worked in water treatment facility. Instead they buy Swill in bottles assuming they are buying "healthy" water. Water is water. I wouldn't drink a gallon a day if I didn't trust that Water treatment facilities are doing their jobs..

Rest easy potable water in civilized societies are good. When in third world countries like Mexico bring a small water purifier you can pickup at any decent sporting goods store. I go into gold mines were spring water is running into tunnels, this stuff is more free of bacteria then the stuff you find in bottles you find on your grocers shelves.

The world will never really run out of water as the person 2 boxes below said. the truth is that water from the oceans are already being converted into clean drinkable water through a process called reverse osmosis. its like a super filter. its gets the salt, dirt and grim from the sea out. i think after this they boil, or distill. the water and collect the water vapor. they then take the water vapor and cool it down to a liquid state. this water is completely pure. since the rest of what ever was in the water stays in the boil pot. But that water is disgusting. since it has like no taste. so they then go to like water bottling plants where they add small amounts of sodium and calcium for flavoring. the biggest plant that "manufacturers water like this is somewhere in California.

At this rate, who knows? If we keep polluting the water like we do, there wont be much left after a while, but if we cleaned the water, it would circulate through evaporation, condensation, and percipitation.
