Honestly, it depends on where you live. I grew up in a place where 1 carat to 1 1/2 carat would be erally big and really nice... but then I went and moved to New York... and 1 carat is considered tiny!!! its more like 2 carats+ out there

I'm not engaged yet, but my boyfriend of 4 years knows exactly what ring I want. I want a 3 stone ring. The center diamond must be at least 2 carats. The side stones are 1 carat each. I go by the rule that the engagment ring carats have to equal the amount of years you're together before you get engaged.

I went with a half carat, but I was more concerned with color and clarity. Those are really more important than size. Who wants a giant diamond with poor/yellow color that is fuzzy looking and never looks bright? With some diamonds you can actually see the dark carbon spots yuck!
And, don't forget the Table, that's important too! You don't want a wide space from the top of the diamond to where the facets begin. That is bad.
The three "C"s are what it's all about: Color, cut and clarity!

For a solitaire I would go with no bigger than a 1/2 carat weight, anything over is just too gaudy and flashy. For total weight, like center stone and side stones, I'd say no more than one carat total weight

where I live 2 carats are the most common and generally they go up from there. but if you want a less expensive ring then go with a brilliant cut because the light reflecting from the diamond makes it appear bigger than it actually is.

1/2 carat or 3/4 carat. Of course, I want a carat and a half.

if its an engagement ring, they were first made a gift to the bride to be, so that if the marriage went bad that the diamond could be re sold to pay off things. so it all depends on how much u would have to pay off, thats why every anniversery the stone is supposed to get more valuable.

I think one carat is the average that women want.
