Obviously this is going to be based on conjecture. I am just interested in hearing the arguments for each player and projections for how their careers will look at the end.

my god, if you guys read the description you would see that i said that this would obviously be projected, not right now, and also, as to being a baseball "novice", perhaps you should read the description, its a question about how their careers will end, just guessing

Well I’ll say Jeter on the fact that every year he has made the playoffs. Not many players can say that. In addition, I’ve seen the way he acts on the field, like a pro every time the first Yankee out of the dugout to congratulate a player for anything and the first to tell them it’s all right. I know Wright is only in his second year but and it is like comparing apples and oranges but Wright hasn’t played in any playoff games yet.
Oh and Rolen's couldn't hold either jockstrap in a rainstorm

Clearly Derek Jeter has already had and will continue to have the better career over David Wright. Dont get me wrong, Wright is a great player with alot of potential but he will never do one thing that Jeter has already done several times and that is win a world series. As long as Wright plays for the Mets he wont win, I dont think he will ever win an MVP (Jeter has won a season, all star, and world series MVP's), Jeter is a six time all star who plays through pain and is a proven winner. He has played his entire carrer for the Yankees and is in no danger of ever being traded. Another thing, Jeter won the rookie of the year, Wright did not. Also, Jeter is a gold glove shortstop. He is one of only 11 Captains to ever be named to the prestigous Yankee's dynasty.... Clearly, Derek Jeter will end up entering the Hall of Fame as a first ballot candiate. Thanks for the oppurtunity to tell you who the better carrer player is.

David Wright. Jeter will be a HOFer (he'll eventually reach 3000 hits), but Wright has a chance to do that but with more power. Plus Wright could definitely end up being one of the best defensive players of all-time; Jeter's very good but not exceptional defensively.

I'd have to say Jeter. He is a clutch player who always comes up with the timely hit to score a run. His defense sometimes was stifling in the beginning, but who can forget the 2001 American League Division Series against the A's. Jeter was responsible for "the flip" that saved the game and is one of the most extraordinary plays in baseball. He wins hands down.

Jeter, he has already won World Series Titles!!! Has captained the Yanks for saeveral years already, is the team leader. He is a very good fielder like wright. Both have good bats-wright has more power, but Jeter is Mr. November. Id rather have him up in the world series down by a run with runners in scoring position!!! I have to go with Jeter!!!

this question has clearly been asked by a baseball novice. you cannot compare any young athlete to derek jeter - you can barely compare any active players to jeter at all. jeter is "mr. intangible" - and yes, i realize that every knowledgible sox fan just puked after reading that, but alas! its true. you can't measure statistically what jeter brings to the game - although, his stats aint bad either. jeter plays every single game like it is the 7th game of the world series. it is difficult to think of many players that can be said of... and sorry, david wright just aint one of them. (oh, and by the way, rolen's good but he aint jeter...)

Although I believe Jeter to be overrated, he is the captain of the New York Yankees. That alone is pretty amazing. Even though I hate the Yankees and so does anyone with a brain, you all have to admit they are the Heart of MLB and they have the largest fan base, so to be the captain of that team and share that with the select few HOFers is quite the achievement.

wright definitely will. althgough jeter is a great ball player, he is highly over rated. if he were on the padres i bet you would not know much about it. its all because he's a yankee. having said that, people have said that this year could be the best start at the plate jeter has ever had. david wright is leading him in hits, runs, doubles, tied with triples, and leading in rbi.

If you measure what he does to contribute to his team's success, Jeter without question. Wright may manage to put up gaudy numbers, but Jeter's got two fistfuls of rings that the Yanks never would have won without his presence and leadership.

I heard a discussion about these two last night, and if the indications are correct the prediction is Wright will be a better player.
