It's an issue that has not been dealt with yet and could be contentious if it ever does. The problem is, the 22nd amendment, which limits presidents to two terms does not specifically say that the VP cannot have been president for 2 terms, but at the same time, the twelfth amendment states, "But no person constitutionally ineligible to the office of President shall be eligible to that of Vice-President of the United States." Whether or not this applies to the interpretation of the 22nd amendment is not at all agreed upon and would involve a Supreme Court dispute if it ever arose.

No they cannot run for any office in the next election but can run again(if he is stupid enough)in the following election. For example: Clinton served eight years,he could have gone up against George W. when he ran for president this second term.A president can only run for any office two consecutive terms(8yrs), then he has to step down but in four more years he can run again.I don't know any former president that has done that.

"The 12th change to u . s . a . structure calls for vice presidents to satisfy an similar criteria as presidents, and the twenty 2d change limits presidents to being elected to purely 2 words. that's, besides the indisputable fact that, debated no matter if a former 2-time period president will be elected vp because the twenty 2d change doesn’t decrease a president to serving 2 words; it purely prevents him from being elected to larger than 2 words. in accordance to at least one interpretation a 2 time period president will be elected to the vice-presidency and then serve yet all over again period in the presidency if the elected president died or replaced into faraway from workplace. The twenty 2d change purely forbids election to, no longer service in, the presidency more desirable than two times. In one of those situation both-time period president grew to develop into vp would nevertheless be elected to the presidency two times."

I don't think so. I think it would be kind of an insult for any President to go down to Vice President. They're kind of nonentities.

DARTHRITUS: Excellent insight, I hadn't thought of that. You'd think that Hillary would be concerned, considering the fate of many Clinton associates.
