Your dollars go toward marketing (some of the best/highest payed models are used for abercrombie and so are some of the most expensive transit media spaces such as in times square and places like that), man hours/employees (An average Abercrombie Manager can make almost 6 figures - This from a friend of mine who worked there while in high school and his manager made over $75,000 anually...imagine what the really big guys make in that company.), real estate costs (most mall spaces are leased...Abercrombie are on the best/most expensive properties), and the name of course!

It's like gas prices in America right now, they know that Americans really have no choice but to buy the gas that keeps inflating and so they can keep inflating it more by free will.. Abercrombie and Fitch probably has high representatives that run the corporation that make the high prices. Also if you look in the stock market Abercrombie and Fitch when it goes down it barely goes down and then goes up a lot all time. It is so expensive because people that have the money repeatedly buy the designer clothing.

If you control the market with expensive enough clothes, certain people will be able to afford them and others will not. This allows wealthier individuals to use these clothes as status symbols. Style is an argument that is used but with Abercrombie & Fitch, you can get the same clothes with a different tag virtually anywhere.

because they are payying for the desighner logo. And to some people its the logo not the brand of clothing or the life of it. I can pay 10$ for a pair of jeans and 180$ for a pair of jeans and the 10$ pair will out last the 180$ pair. A lot of times the desighner clothes people buy that are more exspensive are usally made ic china japan europe or africa.

It's all about marketing and image. They pay a heap of money to advertise in posh magazines and to get certain celebrities to wear their stuff so that people would associate fame, beauty, elegance, etc. with their items. So it's not necessarily the clothes you're paying for but the fact that they spent so much to make you want to have their stuff in the first place.

Hi!
If you compare the quality of the fabric and construction of the garments from Ambercrombie with garments from simialr stores (i.e. American Eagle, Aeropostale), you will see that the quality is much better and that is ultimately what you are paying for.
Another thing to consider is that you are paying for the name brand and the cost of the advertising.
Hope this gives you more insite.

they have logos. I went to the stores and was like, how is a plain shirt $10 in Abercrombie when a shirt in Walmart is $5. But, no one cares really, as long as they have the logo.

Because people are willing to pay that money for those clothes due to brand names. If we all stopped shopping there, their prices would drop drastically.
