How many recording possibilities does it have? Where can I learn about all these recording possibilities? And how do you think, will the recorded CDs be readible in 20 years time or they might lose the data because of aging?

Yes, it is a very good drive.

As for the life of a CD/DVD, estimates based on various tests range from 3 months (yes months, for some really crappy discs) - 100 years. It depends greatly on the CDC and DVD itself. As a general rule rewritable discs degrade quickly than those that can be recorded only once, and both degrade far quicker than prerecorded discs. This is because of the technology used when making the recording. Using good name-brand media is a start, but if you really want to know more you need to do a lot of research that will involve reading some very boring technical articles.

I've heard estimates from 20-100 years on Cd's/DVDs life. The U.S. Library of Congress estimates the life of Cd's/DVDs to be 100 years, if properly cared for and handled properly. If you are asking what the best DVD+-RW is I'd have to say Plextor. Lite-On is also a popular brand, as well as NEC. A DVD+-RW can: Read DVDs, Write DVDs, Read Cd's, Write Cd's. Depending on the drive Write DVD-RAM discs.

I've never used them, but a quick search on google for NEC DVD_RW 3550A showed lots of sites with people posting issues about it. Usually the issues were related to problems with a PC recognizing the drivers.
