Welcome to the world of managed care. By inaccurate, do they mean they messed up the test or that there are cells they couldn't exactly identify?
It DOES bite if you have to pay a second co-pay for a mistake. I think I would fight that with your insurance company. File a grievance form.

You can talk to your insurance company and see if they will be willing to remove the co-pay for the test. How much is the co-pay? $20 or so?
The majority of the time when a test comes back as "inaccurate" it's possible that your wife had a yeast infection or you guys had sex 24hrs before the pap was done.
I would have her retake the test just to be on the safe side! What would you rather have pay your co-pay or have your wife with cervical cancer?

It is possible that the person who took the smear did everything they could to ensure that there were sufficient cells. However, the cells are scraped from the cervix with mucus and there is no way of telling if this mucus contains enough cells or not. There is also no way of telling at the time using microsopy.
It does seem a bit unfair that you have to pay twice, but seeing as I assume your from the States, then isn't it your wifes choice to have the smear, and therefore, shouldn't you have to pay for your own choices?

It's not fair, but it's life. She could choose not to go be tested again and you wouldn't have to pay. Sometimes the cells aren't good cells and that's why it comes back inaccurate. Ask the doc why it came back that way. If she says it's because she didn't get enough cells or something that is obviously her lack of doctoring, speak up. Chances are it's just something that happens randomly.

there was probably traces of feces in her pap smear thats the only thing that can cause results to come back in accurate...tell your wife to wipe correctly (front to back) or she can ask the doctor for a anti bacterial wipe before the pap smear is administerd...if the test show traces of $hit then you have no chance against the insurance company because it was your wifes fault she didnt wipe correctly ...and whats a co-pay compared to the price of your wifes life....pay it cheap ***

That is something I would let the insurance co battle with the provider for. You may just need to switch doctors. I would not pay again.

No need to pay another co-pay. Contact your insurance carrier or let the place your wife had it done at contact them. No one pays two co-pays.

You can't fight the Insurance Companies. Vote for a more liberal government and things might change.
