Most pediatricians say six months or when they are turning over from side to side on their own. I didn't give my baby solids until six months and then started with rice cereal 3x per day. Then, gradually work your way up. Start with veggies, after the cereal. If you start with fruit first, your baby may develop a sweet tooth and not eat the veggies. Be sure, when you do start solids, to have your baby eat ONE food at a time for seven days. This way, if there's an allergic reaction, it's easier for your pediatrician to pin point what caused it. When you have gone through one food for seven days, switch to another for seven days. Do this until your baby has tried everything, then you can mix foods daily. Also, babies, when they start solids, should eat a rainbow of foods three times daily in addition to cereal and formula or breast milk. I hope that this helped you.

All babies are different. I think the mom's roll is slowly diminishing with all this 'information' floating around out there. You obiviously are picking up on something which is why your asking this question ;)
My son is 3 1/2 months old. I started him on solids a week before he turned 3 months (about 10/11 weeks). I knew he was ready.
The one thing that clued me in was that he has started this chewing motion with this mouth and tongue. And, he would track both my husband and I when we ate. It was so funny. But, after awhile I felt bad because here this kiddo was following me eating and chewing.
So, I went by the Gerber baby rice cereal directions and fed him his first real foods. I was scared and nervous because everyone says wait six months. But, do you know he loved it. Then I started out with 1/2 jar of squash. Two days later we had 1/2 jar of bananas (not a favorite)...and so on.
Another way I could tell he was ready was that he was having a growth spurt. He was so hungry and feeding every two hours and cranky between there.
Milestone wise he was batting at toys and occasionally grabbing a hold of them. He was also holding conversations - even while we were nursing. He was able to hold his head up - with some help. But, I put him up on the bobby and we've been doing it ever since.
I'm guessing that you feel your baby is ready. You know best!
When I took my son in last month they asked about solids. I said no, only breast milk until six months. She said some people start early depends on the baby, and they recommend waiting six months but some babies just are ready early. And, I should be so strict about the rules...when your hungry your hungry. Good advice I think.

I wouldn't. It is not recommended by pedi's. Formula or breast milk is all a baby needs until they are 6 months of age. And I can tell you from experience, mine and a lot of others, that feeding them solids doesn't help them sleep longer. The things is baby's that age still have their anti swallow. Usually at that age when you put something in baby's mouth they will push it back out with there tongue. Giving infant cereal too soon can also cause allergies. Is there a reason you want to feed food so early? Anyway that my opinion, but it is backed up from many sources. You could also go to the American Pediatrics Association website and see what they recommend. Good Luck.

This is a question for your pediatrician. I've found that most people either start cereal (the first solid food your baby should eat) at 4 months or 6 months. Some people wait until 6 months becuase they say that infants who start eating solid foods earlier can grow up with weight problems. I don't know. I started both of my boys on rice cereal at 4 months, and moved up from there.

My son is 3 1/2 months old and he has been eating rice cereal since he was a month old due to reflux. I just started giving it to him on a spoon. And he loves it. The doctors say wait until 6 months ago. But 8yrs ago it was start them at 3 months old. I have a 8 yr old daughter who was fed at 3 months and is not olver weight nor is she a diabetic or does she have food allergies. Doctors really can't say when you can start you baby on solids. Just go by what you think is best for your baby. And make sure you have alot of bibs with you because it gets messy.

I started my 4 1/2 month old on rice cereal when she was a little over 3 months. I did it a few times in a bottle but she likes the spoon better. There are signs when your baby is ready for solid food which is...
he/she has doubled their birth weight
can sit up supported
has good control of his/her neck
I am now starting her on 1st stage baby food, it's messy but fun. Also if you try make sure it is runny and let her suck it off the spoon rather than put the spoon in her mouth.

3-4 months is a good time to start on rice cereal and to be sure there are no food allergies give it plain for the first few days before putting any fruit in it. Also, anytime with in the first feedings new foods should be given for a few days at a time as a safety precaution to be sure there are no allergies. Congrats on your baby-good luck!!!

The American Academy of Pediatrics says to not start any solids until 6 months because before then the baby doesn't have the ability to correctly digest solids. Only breastmilk or formula until 6 months is the current recommendation by the experts.

I started my daughter at 4 months. I started here with veggies first and gave here the same veggie for a whole week to make sure that she wasn't allergic to it. Each week I introduced her to a new one. Once I went through the veggies we moved to fruit. I started w/ Veggies first because I didn't want her to like the sweets and not eat her veggies.
Always ask your doctor when is a good time and how they recomend introducing the baby food.

Actually 3 months is a great time to start. Check with your doctor first, but our friend just had a baby, and they gave her permission at 3 months. I t will help the baby sleep better at night too. You will start to have some nasty diapers though. The poo poo will have more consistency, rather than the diareaish stuff you have had.
