I think the avatars can be interesting and represent a basic image of yourself as you are, or as you want to be, or maybe be totally different from what you are.

However, you should keep in mind that the Answers team has determined that some basic kinds of questions can be considered in violation of the community guidelines found here, http://answers.yahoo.com/info/community_guidelines.php

It's a common mistake, but I would really hate for anyone who is new to get a violation notice for something like asking about their avatar. I do NOT report people for this kind of stuff, because it happens a lot as people are starting to learn the site. Reports should be saved for more serious stuff, in my opinion. But there are people who seem to like to report evertying.
