While in mexico i found a coin on the ground worth 50 pesos. When i tryed to use it for payment to a taxi driver his expression changed and he said no, no that is a rare coin and we would want to keep it. After this we looked closer at the coin and found that it was dated 1939. It is probably silver. what could it potentially be worth?

I never heard of a silver 50 Mexican pesos in 1939 they were all gold.

A 1939 50 centavos is silver and is worth $5.50 in very fine grade, up to $18.50 in brilliant grade.

All older Mexican coins are very collectable because the change there currency so often.

It is not worth anything. Mexico has changed its currencies so many times. It definitely has no monetary value, unless for some reason someone out there collects obscure coins that no one else wants--they may pay you for it. But I doubt it.

I am not sure but this would be something very fun to find out. I have a plate from Prussia and that is no longer a country and I still have yet to figure the value of it. I think you will enjoy your search and best of luck to you. Here is a link that may help
