Militarily or economically or both?

25 years from now:

Militarily:

1 China
2 US
3 Europe (collectively and including UK. It is possible Europe will be some form of federation by then anyway).
4 India
5 Pakistan (possibly in a collective with the other 'Stans', such as Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan and Iran). This 'Stan' axis will also be closely linked with the Islamic States of the Middle East and Asia.. The rest of the World's nations will be also-rans.

Economically:

1 China
2 Europe (including UK)
3 USA
4 India
5 Australia.

In practice, the economic power is the World's superpower. Trade wins friends and influences people rather more effectively than bullets and bluster (Bush take note).

So China will rule and Europe will be #2. The US won't be taking this lying down and will be using all its brilliant business skills to fight back. But it will be a losing battle.

Americans have only themselves to blame for this. Their unshakeable belief in their superiority has blinded them to a World changing before their eyes which, with every day, is less in awe of Uncle Sam.

Economically? Politically? Militarily? Different answers.

China is certainly going to rise in power in each of these.

India is certainly going to rise, but they don't have it militarily and have an awful long way to go to be in the top five most politically influential.

I would say economically, US, Japan, China, Brazil, and the European common market.

Militarilly, US, Russia, China, EU (because of NATO), afterwards I'm having difficulty seeing any one country or cohesive alliance (like NATO) that is in the same league.

Politically, the US will have a much diminished role, but certainly in the top 5 if for nothing else but the economic and military clout. France and England will still posture themselves as the old, genteel, keepers of civility, but they won't be in the top 5. China, because of economics and military, will have a definite seat in the political arena that will not be ignored, eclipsing Russia which will have an influence akin to, but above France and UK. I expect that a moslem country will rise in influence, but it is hard to pick which one for most are about as influential as most african countries--none. Indonesia might rise to be a political voice for Islam. Morroco should but won't for the same reason as Singapore, too moderate and too inconsequential in other terms. I think Canada will have a definite place in the political top 5, and maybe Chile.

Still, lots of things can happen between now and then.

In order (most likely): China, India, UK, EU and US (if still given ample help from China). For example, in the times we are in now, China purchases US $40 Million PER MONTH in order to keep us out of the red. If they stopped for one month, or worse more, what then?!?!?!

i dont think the other 4 will matter that much...the united states will succeed dramatically more than the others because we offer more opportunities than the others..and our system of gov't is open and fixable...not like the others, closed and controlling
the other countries will try and slow us down economically, but it wont work..we have the brightest most innovative minds and will overcome any obstacle in our path...
in 25 years we will have encouraged freedom and democracy and peace in the world...we will have overhauled the united nations..we will have given the third world the options they need to make life better for their peoples...and we will have solved the energy problem, which will put us as the leader of the world for generations to come...
