the correct question is who is the second greatest baseball player to ever live?
The Greatest is The Babe
Why ? because the Babe was actually 4 separate players;
He could hit for power -714 home runs
He could hit for average- .342 Career BA. Most guys never see .342 in a season,let alone a career.
He could run well- where the hell did that come from? The perception of the Babe as a big fat slow slugger is wrong. . The man had 506 doubles and 136 triples. Big fat slow guys don/t get triples - they pull up at second.
He was a decent fielder .968
And to remove all doubts he was 94-48 -2.28 as a starting pitcher and3-0 .85 pitching in the World Series.
So i ask again who is # 2?

George Herman "Babe" Ruth. He set the standard all others will be judged. He started out as a great pitcher and then converted to the outfield. In 1920 and before, he changed the way baseball fans view baseball..with the long ball. He hit more home runs than some clubs. He was a great hitter for average and intimidated pitchers..like no other player. Even non-baseball fans know who Ruth is. He brought baseball to new heights of popularity and ignited the Yankees.

I think Babe Ruth. Everyone knows he hit 714 home runs and holds or held several hitting records, but he also was a pitcher at the beginning of his career. He won several World Series games and was the one of the best pitchers at the time. He also once held the record for longest consecutive scoreless innings in the postseason. No other player can claim to be as accomplished as Babe Ruth in hitting and pitching, therefore he is the greatest player to ever live.

There is this place in Cooperstown, NY. Perhaps you've heard of it. It's the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum. It is the keeper of MOST of the greatest names in baseball. There are a few who have yet to be inducted, but "yet" is the operative word. If you love the game, and I mean truly love the game, then there is no single greatest player. You may have your favorites, but there is respect for all those who have been and will be lucky enough to receive this great honor.

Since Babe Ruth was the complete baseball player, I’ll take him.
With a career-winning % of .671 as a pitcher winning over 20 games twice, with a 2.28 ERA only 41 times did he start a game as a pitcher where he didn’t complete the game.
A .968 Career fielding percentage with 4787 PO and 179 errors in 21 seasons
Now with the hitting 10th all time in batting average with a 342, 2nd all-time with a .474 career on-base %, 1st .690 slugging %, 1st in OPS 1.164 , 3rd in runs, 5th in total bases, 2nd in walks and RBI, and 2nd in Home Run (without using steroids).

Pete Rose,I hated him as a player but with what I see on the field today, not many now loved to play baseball like Pete Rose.

JOSH GIBSON , from the old ***** leagues. If he could of had a career in the major leagues he would probably still hold all of the major hitting titles. He was a real 5 tool player with an arm like a rocket and the speed of lightning. Check him out on the web.

Jackie Robinson. No other player had to face so much animosity. Hes great because he just played the game. He didn't fight back, more players today need to just play the game and not worry about the media and the fans.
