http://www.freewebspace.com and http://www.50megs.com are all free. You can upload using their file manager and not bother with ftp.
You can even have the prefix domain name customed to yours for free using those sites so you can create a anoop.freewebspace.com or anoop.50megs.com as your web address.

I suggest you try http://mutt.in, you gotta email a guy named avati, he is providing free Linux shell accounts, of course web hosting comes free with ftp, ssh access. That basically means you can upload pages run php, Perl, python with database mysql etc etc free, but no support.
But the domain name you will get would be something like http://mutt.in/~ajaypal/

you'll need the one that comes with FTP access to upload your pages/files easily. Check this host http://suggestionsite.com/viewtopic.php?t=9 , read their terms and guides coz their have audit check on abuse.
