the sound after a joke is called a rim shot and originates with vaudeville. since they had no 'laugh track' like on TV. They used the sound to point out the jokes and remind people to laugh.
In vaudeville, Boom-tiddy-boom-tiddy boom, was a drum line played during the entrance of a burlesque dancer and was coordinated with her hip movements. While the name my refer to the sound of the drum, the original phrase may have had a different spelling suggesting an alternate origin. "boom-titty-boom-titty-boom."

First, I argee with "dehnger2u". If you ever watch like the Jay Leno show....he says a joke and at the end the drummer from the band will hit his drums a few times, well when a person is telling a joke but doesn't have the drums available, you wud just make the sound tiddy boom but I think that it might be spelled a liitle different and then
as for "davehuckleberry"......There are any stupid questions. I mean come on this is what this is here for.
