Yes. The poster who mentioned 7 years for a background check is wrong -- putting your name into an FBI database brings up ANY arrests/convictions after you turn 18 (or before that if you were a juvenile but tried as an adult). There is no time limit.

The best thing you can do, if you've stayed out of trouble since then, is apply in your state for a "certificate of rehabilitation." That won't clear your arrest/conviction off your record, but it will add official state recognition of your rehabilitation, and that you're a fully-recognized citizen. Getting one in most states also automatically forwards a request to the governor of the state for a pardon, which is usually granted -- and the pardon will also show up on your record.

Well have you comitted it again without getting caught? It shouldn't do much because it was 14 years ago and usually they only go back about 5-7 years in history. You should be able to get the job.

You need to speak to a lawyer about this. If you are in NYC area, contact the Fortune Society and they will help you for free. I do know that if you lie about a conviction on your application, then you can be fired for cause. If this was your only offense perhaps you can get your record expunged.

Totally depends on the employer. You can get it expunged. It's pricey, but that might help. Good luck!

It depends on what kind of company you apply to. Financial services companies go back indefinitely.
