I am a true blue born and raised Oilers fan now living in BC. I am thirlled that Edmonton got us this far in the playoffs and win or lose on Saturday it has been a heck of a fun time. We should all remember that this is entertainment. When they won in the 80's I was right downtown on Jasper Avenue partying and celebrating with everyone else and do not remember anyone getting violent or hurt. I don't want to sound like a PSA commercial but if and when the Oilers win all you Edmontonians should make the rest of us Canadians and the Oilers who worked so hard proud by celebrating and having fun without anyone getting hurt or even killed. Lets take a look at the World Cup right now and learn some lessons from them. I love how everyone is taking pride in being Canadian now and to have it all blown out of the water by some sensless act in celebration would make me and I would like to think other proud Canadians very sad.
Go Oilers Go. And do your city proud Edmonton. You have a whole country behind you.

I fully agree...
...it's funny how hockey brings out our patriotism!
I get choked up whenever I see the anthem being sung at a hockey game in Canada! Where else do you see 15,000 or more people sing the anthem, where they know all of the words, and really, really, really mean it?
Singing the American anthem is a special touch! I feel nothing but Canadian pride to see this!
I, also noticed that Carolina was trying to match our hospitality. They gave it a good try...you gotta give them credit for that! I guess it's alot better than many other things that have occurred in the past, such as booing our anthem or displaying an upside down flag!
I appreciate your question as you put your finger exactly on how I feel.
GO OILERS GO!!!

Absolutely we rock, and your right to recognize the hurricane fans for trying with our anthem. I'm proud to be Canadian, and proud to be a true Oiler fan since the 80's!!!!

I was born in the US but my husband is Canadian, which makes our 2 sons Canadian as well, so of course I love Canada and the Canadian people.
I'm a San Jose Sharks fan, so was sad to see the Oilers beat them. At the last Sharks home game, a few fans started to boo when Oh Canada started. We were outraged - no class!! So we started singing Oh Canada really loud - and so did most of the Arena! We managed to drown out the lame people that were booing. It was really cool!

I am a proud Canadian and I really hope the Oilers show what they're made of Saturday night!! I'm sorry though that Canada didn't have representation in World Cup Soccer.

i have been an oilers fan since i was a kid. i have been to a couple of oiler's games and was in awe over the support the fans gave the team win or lose. hearing carolina fans sing did bring a tear to my eye and it just goes to show how a show of support is contagious and respected. i really hope it starts a trend in sport as well as everyday life.

I have to admit that I saw the fans in Carolina singing our anthem first before I saw the fans in Edmonton singing the US one. To be honest when I saw the US fans singing O Canada, I had an entirely new respect for them. I have slammed them in the past for being uneducated on all things hocky, but that was a true measure of respect for their neighbors to the north. I am Canadian and we do rock, but so do the Americans. There is still a glimmer of hope for me that Edmonton will win.

It is interesting for me living in the US now. We have a team from the Central Hockey League here and I have noticed many people in this backwoods of West Texas who actually try, and many succeed, in singing the Canadian National anthem at the Odessa Jackalopes games. I have also noticed it in Lubbock, TX as well when we were there. It works both ways. All our players, of course, are Canadian. It really seems funny that our whole team is Canadian, but they are great guys. I still miss Vancouver though! :(
