Prepared for an Elephant, I don't think so. You will need permits from the state and federal government, do you have them? Babys will need special formula, do you have it? ACRES of land, got it? You need experience in dealing with an animal that could kill you by mistake, not to mention when the baby goes through the "terrible twos" or an adolescent. Zoos have 8 foot tall 10 inch around bars that contain their elephants at all times. Do not even consider getting an elephant until you've worked with these animals for at least 2 years under the mentorship of a trained elephant keeper.

Discovery channel store had adopt an animal program couple of years ago. It is gonna take some effort for you to find the info. Best places to look would be ZOO's. if your local zoo dont have anything look on the internet for other zoos that might. Alot of times they will have a website to send emails so it dont cost you a furtone on your phone bill. If zoo's are no help google search adopt a baby african elephant. Try googling with different words on different search engines. You should come up with somethings. Also try calling the nearst discovery channel store (or nature, animal store) an employee may have seen one somewhere and will tell ya.

You mean you want to buy an elephant to keep as a pet? Then you would go to Africa. Once there I am sure you could find some elephants roaming around. Just wait for a poacher to kill some poor baby's momma then you can adopt him at no additional cost to you.

The price of the elephant will pale in comparison to the daily cost of the food.
You will need a staff of people to properly care for it.
Keep in mind that elephants are family oriented and do not like to be separated from their young.
Consult your local zoo so they can talk you out of this.
If you are serious then good luck.

see there are zoos which offer adoption of animals. what that actually means is you adopt it but it stays in the zoo... you pay for its care and get free entry passes and invites to all its events. you are also invited to the Parents day function. so see you can adopt a baby Elephant or for that matter any animal but its not that you get totake him/her home... i have seen such adoption happening at the SFO zoo but didnt see any elephnts there. I am sure you can look for a zoo nearer to your place so you can visit your baby elli often!!

I am sure a poacher will slaughter the mother in the wild to insure you will pay a lot to have a cute baby elephant.
