I find Norton too expensive. Are there good alternatives? What about Zone Labs?

If you have original win XP you can download Anti Virus from Microsoft.com namely, Computer associates(eTrust AV, 1 yr subscription), Norton 2006 , panda and McAfee(all others 90 days). These are free subscription downloads for Microsoft users.
ZoneLabs is pretty good, it is a complete security suite i,e with firewall, AV, privacy and anti spyware.

First of all, one of the easiest wey to stop online attacks is, STOP USING INTERNET EXPLORER. Ever noticed that add ons can be attached to that particular browser only. As well it uses ActiveX controls, whether you need it not. which allows your computer to be identified. Both Netscape and the latest versin of Firefox gives you the option to use ActiveX when it's actually needed.
Secondly, I would not recommend AVG to anyone. It's crappy and useless. I know from having to deal with repairs on infected systems that ran AVG. I would recommend AntiVir Personal edition, whic 100% free, updates and all. http://www.free-av.com.
This is what Linux users use when compelled to run Windows.
Along with this you would need an effective spyware program. I recommend Spybot, it is the only Spyware/Adware program that identifies and removes Trojans. With thse programs running, you're good to go.

Use AVG. It's Free.
Zonelabs Internet Security Suite(Firewall and Antivirus) is good too but not free at USD 49.95. Still cheaper than Norton USD$69.99 and better too.
If you want fully free, use AVG and Zonealarm FREE.

If you happen to be a AT&T Yahoo branded DSL service subscriber, you'd get the anti-virus software for free. I am pretty happy with the software they provided. It came from CA (compute associates), named EZ something.

A'vast anti-virus is a free and effective product. Back it up with "AD-Aware" and "Spybot", both free downloads, and you should be relatively safe for no cost.
