Best turnaround in baseball history is Minnesota Twins in 1991. After being in last place in 1990, the Twins won it all in 1991, beating Atlanta in 7 games. Like the Twins, Atlanta had been in last place the year before and turned it around.
Best turnaround in basketball was the San Antonio Spurs, who were 20-62 in 1996-97, got Tim Duncan in the 1997 draft and were NBA champs just two years later in 1998-99. The Spurs have since won two more NBA titles.

The greatest NFL turnaround for 1 game would be the Buffalo Bills 1993 Wildcard game. They were down 28-3 at halftime and then 35-3 in the third quarter. The Bills ended up coming back and winning in overtime 41-38. By far the greatest turnaround in sports for 1 game.

The 92 Phillies were in last place in the NL East and the 3rd worst team in baseball that year. The 93 Phillies not only won the Division and the League but were within 2 out of taking the game to a game seven when Joe Carter hit probably the greatest home run ever hit (walk off World Series winning Home Run).

In MLB playoff history, the Red Sox comeback in the 2004 ALCS against the Yankees is far and away the biggest turnaround... (Down three games to none, only to and come back and win the next four games and advance to the World Series -- it's the only time in baseball history that has ever happened.)

I'd say the 1991 Minnesota Twins. They finished last in their division in 1990. In 1991 they win the whole show against the Atlanta Braves in 7 games. Great turn around for a small market team.

If you mean in the same season, I'd go with the 1914 Boston Braves were in last place on July 4th, 15 games out and won the pennant with a 94-59 record.
