oh yes the light hearted tales of Captain Howdy and his friend Bling Me the transvestite will lure yours and any child into a magical fantasy adventure. I promise that not only are these stories appropriate reading they will soon become classics and a family heirloom that you pass down from generation to generation. My personal favorite story is "Captain Howdy gets Blinged.... How the Captain met Bling Me" have your daughter read this first its the beginning of the series!!!

Depends on how you decide to raise your children and the maturity level of your 8 year old. If she is saavy and knows more than your average 8 years old it may be a catalyst to open a discussion and allow her to ask question so that you are able to express the values you want your child raised with as opposed to hearing it from friends or schoolmates, which is usually wrong information anyway. Being aware of different lifestyles is a way of our kids understanding that because you may not agree with what someone is doing for any reason, that does not mean that they are bad people or that they should be harmed or that she should try and experience everything she sees or read about. I see it as an opportunity. Sheltering our children too much leaves them ill-prepared for the real world. Knowledge and education, when presented in the right way by loving parents, can never be harmful.

No, not alone. That's too much information for such a young child with, I hope, limited sexual knowledge. Too much information is foisted on children who are not ready emotionally to accept such knowledge. Let children be children when they are children. They have a very long time to be an adult and deal with the gray areas of life. Answer questions truthfully but don't give them more than they can handle. Listen to what their questions are actually asking. If being gay is a family topic, then read the book together but don't expect an eight-year-old to handle this alone or without guidance.

Yes, it is. One can not block information about what is going on in the world. Take a look at the book yourself and make your own determination. If you are uncomfortable about it, speak with her in a civil tone as to why you disagree with it. Patience and understanding always win out over overwhelming pressures. Eight is a perfect age to do more bonding with your daughter. Read Psalm 35 to (Plead My Cause) for God's help with this. Peace and God Bless.

Ask you daughter who recommended her the book. Ask her the reasons why she wants to read it? See if she does not have any curiosities. Make sure she is not trying to find answers to her curiosities in books. Also, as an educator, I would suggest you to find out what is the reading level for the book. The book may be to hard for your child to read. Find out more information about the book, see if the book is adequate for her reading level and answer any question she may have about the topic. Many times children don't need to hear the whole truth because they won't be able to understand it. Therefore, you just privide enough information so they can clam their curiosities.

Not for my daughter. Kids are exposed to enough these days. We shouldn't censor books, but there are some that are only appropriate for certain age groups.

I would say it's ok. But.... It may increase the risk of her becoming a transvestite "twisted sista" and joining a 1980's rock&roll hair band.

Read it and decide for yourself. Gay does have a dual meaning, if that's what you're concerned about...
