it goes against those who say we don't exist, life is meaningless, or that we cannot know, the skeptic i believe. knowing something implies that we must have life. or is dependent on the fact that we must be alive to know. Similar to the cartesian (descartes) who said I think therefore i am.

Descarte is absolutely certain that he exists because he thinks and experiences things. This absolute certainty is then used to prove we can know something. but this is descartes not nietzsche. I don't know who came first but they sound similar. He's not reacting against descarte he's just rephrasing what he said. I pretty sure he is reacting against the skeptic who's all spaced out hippie and is like maybe my blue is your purple and we're just beamed down manifestations of one being.

I never read nietsche so don't know exactly what he was trying to say. have to read the whole section of the book to know exactly but that's what it sounds like.

also if we try to say that we know we can't know we destroy any value of knowing we can't know. obviously if we can't know anything then we can't know we don't know. You can just say maybe we don't know. which is kind of weak.

sorry so confusing; hope that helped :^)

All knowledge, all sciences and arts, make the assumption life is a positive. Even when we vreate that which destroys, it is done fpor the preservation of life, though that life may be of a particular group to which we belong.

SO, it is an assumption. Knowledge assums life is a give, it is axiomatic. Knowledge does not question that life should or should not be.

Remember, part of the problem with studying this philospher is that so many of the translations are so horroble or donew in such an arcane way as to make him, often, nearly incomprehensible.

Of course, the syphalis didn't help.

And his sister giving his stuff to the Nazis (which he did not support) coulured people's perception of him.

I believe that "knowledge presupposes life" means basically that knowledge assumes before life.

I believe he is reacting to any knowledge of things that erradicate life (i.e. extermination, holocaust, etc...), but I am definitely not a Philosopher.
