Rattlesnakes can only inject their poison thru their bite and not all the time do they give poison. Most think when the Rattlesnake is evil or bad but when it shakes it rattles and pull back in a striking mode it is telling who ever or whatever animal that is close that it is afraid and don't want to be stepped on. Biting is a last resort for it since biting a human or a large animal means it may not get to eat when the next meal comes along. Their poison works in two ways, it kills the food and it helps to start to digest it. If you are out and meet up with a Rattlesnake stop and let it go on it way. If you do move do it very slowly and away from it. Their eye sight isn't all that good so any sudden movement sets it off. But if you give it a few minutes it will uncoil and move away from you when it doesn't feel threaten any longer.
The Spitting Cobra can and do spit theirs up to about 10 feet and they go for the eyes, when the animal or man rubs their eyes the poison gets into the system and death soon after.

Rattlesnakes can only inject poison through a bite.
There are some types of cobras that spit venom, though.

I think you might have confused the rattlesnake with the cobra because I do know that there is a species of cobra that spits out venom and it particularly aims for the eyes to blind its prey.

By biting only. Don't be silly and cut an x in the bite and suck the blood either. That is not needed. Most rattle snake bites are not lethal. You have plenty of time to get to a doctor unless you are alone and no one near to help. Even then you most likely would not die.

Venom is dispensed into its victim via injeciton through syringe-like fangs that are razor sharp and front set/retractable. Rattlesnakes do not spit their venom since their venom delivery system is not designed for launch from the mouth.

Rattlesnakes do not spit venom like certain cobras can. You have to be bitten and injected through their fangs.
