Start tithing.
You'll find yourself working and budgeting to give back the first fruits of what you make rather than to be unsatisfied with senseless purchases. You will derive TRUE happiness from knowing you are helping others, and find yourself with less of an urge to purchase stuff to be happy.
Pray about it...see what you think.

I look at it this way- when I buy something, I just compare what else I could do with the money- could I save it to do something like travel or take a vacation?
Mostly what I do, though, is think about how many people don't even have this much money, and how it could help them. I was a volunteer with the Red Cross during Katrina, and when you see people who have lost everything and need all the help they can get, well then it's easy not to spend it on stupid stuff, and instead put it where it matters. And if you're looking for a way to be happy not sad, what could be happier than helping people?

Get a good budget and stick to it. Ask yourself when you want to buy something, do I need it? do I already have something like this I can use? if I don't get it will my life be ruined? Be firm with yourself. Crown money managment has some great ideas. Also Mary Hunt, she writes a column for the daily newspaper, and she is the best. I am constantly clipping her stuff out andsticking it in my budget book..

Set a budget, have your check direct deposited, have a portion automatically set aside into a 'Christmas Account' that way you are forced to save and budget.
Get rid of your check card, shelf your credit card and pay in cash. Only take with you what you are willing, or have allotted yourself to spend and you will find that you will be more apt to reconsider a purchase if you do not have the funds on hand or if you physically see that it is reducing or will completely empty your cash on hand. It feels better (psychologically) to have cash in your pocket to have an empty pocket so this could save you on occassion.

Money, and stuff does not bring happiness. People often buy things to try to fill a void in their life. Learning to be happy with yourself is the first thing. Learning to be happy with what you have is also important. Learning to budget with what money you have is key.
Do some soul searching
God bless...

Do not carry cash or credit cards with you. Give yourself an allowance and put the rest of the money in the bank.
This may sound silly, but there is such a thing as a shop-a-holic. See if there is a support group in your area.
Good Luck!

Find out the difference between NEEDS and WANTS:
Our actual needs are pretty limited: food, shelter, clothing, companionship. Just about everything else is a "want," and our wants are essentially endless. Because our resources are limited, we have to make choices about which wants to fulfill.
If you and distinguish between the item you are buying is need or wants (I would term it as junk/clutters at your home), then you can spend on needs only NOT the wants. That way, you can save every penny you earn for your future.

'things' do not bring true happiness--remember that the next time you want to make a purchase on something stupid. you will only be receiving immediate gratification, but will feel guilty later. Let the anticipation of future guilt trick you into not buying.

write down a budget and only spend for the things on there. Put the money in an envelope and the rest in savings.

Budget your dollars. If you want to save money than set some aside.
If you have spending/debt issues cut up your credit cards and only spend cash.
Hope this helps.
