My friends cell phone he pays for minuets as he goes my question is when he runs out he has to buy more but in the time between running out and getting more minuets can he still receive text messages?

Its true I have a pre-paid minute phone and when the minutes get too low to complete a call you can still get texts!!

Yup, normally you can receive calls and texts without having credit on the phone.


Different network operators vary the amount of time they let this go on for though - some will on ly keep the number set up for a month, others up to three months without credit.

Probably not. He needs to buy some more minutes before all the old ones are completely gone to avoid a break in service.
