Just remember the fawn is like a child, it is growing. The bones are lengthening and growing bigger, the muscles should be growing bigger. You must not make it TOO tight.
Put the cast on for no more than 4 to 6 weeks, make SURE it is not too tight. The actual time it requires to heal really depends on how badly the bone was broken, and whether you got it lined UP correctly. A human cast usually stays on for 6 weeks or longer.
You might have to take that one off and put on a NEW bigger one for a couple of weeks if the first one gets too tight.
IF it is too tight, you will cut off the circulation of blood to that leg and the leg WILL be permanently damaged or lost.

Depending on the severity of the break or fracture it can take a varried length of time. If its just a sprain even less. Sprains can be healedup from days to a week or two. Fractures and breaks can sometimes last between as early as a month for a minor to several months for a major. Sometimes nature needs to run its course though, if you bandage this deer and keep him in captivity then it may not make it back in the wild. A+ for effort though :)

Start at the top and work down to the hoof, when you run out of leg, that's it.

The animal should be seen by a vet - doctoring at home is never a good idea.

You need to contact the wildlife department in your state IMMEDIATELY. It is illegal to hold the animal and it is illegal to administer treatment unless you are a veterinarian - which wouldn't be asking this on here.
