We told our LL that we had a bug problem that he needed to do something. He gave us $10 out of rent to buy bug bombs. We bought a few and they made the problem worst. Out of our money we bought Raid bombs and they made it worst. We came home both times and the walls and ceilings were covered with live bugs. Just a couple days ago my husband and I had to take our 1 year old daughter to the ER for what we thought was an ear infection but they removed a cockroach out of her ear. We can't live like this anymore. Everynight bugs are falling on us and they are all over my baby's bed. We even bought those things you plug in but they just hide from the noise. When it comes to the mice problem he tells us to get a cat. We can't I am allergic and also pregnant so I can't change the litter box. The LL also has repairs he has to make from the people who lived here before us. Holes in the wall in my daughters room, and a missing pole from the banister that my daughter can fall through. Please Help

I am waiting to hear back from a few jobs and my husband's company has yet to find him a permanant place. Money is tight and we CAN NOT move at the moment. When we first moved in the LL said everything will be fixed. And we had to either move here or live on the streets. We did what we had to for our daughter. There weren't this many bugs when we moved in. Our place in clean at the moment i am a SAHM so I clean everyday.

no, you can't with hold the rent, but you can pay for the exterminator with the rent money and give him a COPY of the bill just in case it goes to court. Cover you assests. Take pictures before the exterminator comes and keep the doctor record about pullling a cockroach out of your daughter's ear. You could also call the health department if you want to be nasty.

FIRST read your lease agreement and then maybe talk to a lawyer that can advise you.
Call the local news station and have them do a story. Maybe the embarrassment will make your LL do something. Also, call BBB Better Business Bureau and report him. Most of all MOVE to another place. Sounds like the problem is to a point that the place needs to be torn down and rebuilt!

If it was part of the legal agreement that he must do these things, which I assume it was since these are basic sanitary issues, then he has already violated your agreement so I believe you could withhold rent. Based on your description of the issue, I recommend that you look for a new place to live. Try searching on Craig's List, you could probably find something good for cheap. You could also take your landlord to court, but that's going to be a long slow process.

Sorry you're stuck with a crooked slum lord. Definitely look over your lease and consult with an attourney to see what your options are. Laws vary from city to city. There's a way that you can withhold money from *him* while these issues are being addressed, but it requires you to actually make payments on time, etc. You should write a letter expressing all issues in detail and copy a lawyer. Good luck!

Bottom line, it's not legal to withhold rent in most states. If there is that much wrong with the place and you moved in anyway... well, it's too late to discuss that.
Your recourse may now have to include an attorney.

Find out where the health & safety office in your city is, or go online and file a dispute. This is a totally untenable situation - you should definitely take pictures and talk to the health department, this place needs to be shut down and your SLUMlord fined!!

You really need to contact code enforcement or the police....someone. You are renting from a SLUM LORD. You need to get out of there and find suitable housing for your child....and you are pregnant???? Using all those harmful chemicals. I kinda feel sorry for you, but I also think you are pretty stupid for harming your one year old and your unborn child like this. UNFIT!

Is it in contract agreement when signing the lease? You will find your answer there.
