I've had a pool all my life and enjoy every second of it!

If you manually clean your pool you shouldn't spend more than 1-1 1/2 hours per week on it - thats it! I spend 1-2 min per day just testing the water and keeping my chemicals balanced. The majority of my time is cleaning the bottom. I purchased the Hayward Aqua Bug which is an automatic cleaner and it cleans my pool for me! The best $120 I ever spent! All I do is skim the top of the pool and hop in! I spend MAYBE 30 min per week total doing everything!

As far as chemicals - I use Bleach, Borax and Baking soda! Plain unscented bleach will sanitize your pool just the same as the expensive shock or chlorine you buy at the pool stores. I'll post the websites that will help you!

Good Luck

You should put sand under your above ground pool. Make sure you smooth it out the best you can so the bottom of the pool will be smooth. The smoother it is, the easier it is to keep clean. Pools are a hassle to keep up, my family used to have one. It requires you to vacuum it 1 or 2 times a week and it takes LOTS of chemicals. Chemicals are pricey too. I can remember my parents spending around $200 at the beginning of each summer just to start it up. Then you have to maintain the cleanliness, which means buying more chems every time you run out. You go through chlorine and shock the most. We used products made by Baquacil, which is more costly, but the chemicals don't burn your eyes as much as regular chlorine. The chems sold at Walmart and Sam's work fairly good too and are much cheaper. I just hope you know what you're getting into. It's a job, and it requires more than one person to keep it up. My whole family pitched in on vacuuming and chem maintenence duties. Good luck.

they are a lot off work, expect to spend a hour or so a day on it, as far as cost I don't know. the filter does add a bit to your electric bill.
