Why do I taste through my fingers? ( especially metals)?

Yes this is real, yes I am human. According to my college science teacher 1 in 50 people have this 'condition'. He did not tell me why though. So, please, no more ignorant answers. If you don't have the answer or something nice to say, please move along.

You could have a cross linked area in your brain between the sense of touch and taste where touch stimuli from your hands stimulate a response in the taste portion of your brain. BTW, this is how they think foot fetishes occurr because the area for foot sensry information is right next to the genital area on the brain sensory map. I think that some people have heightened senses...there is a possibility that you just have such a strong sense of taste that when you touch things you can taste them also...

Points to ponder? :

1. After you touch these items...do you stick your fingers in your mouth??

2. You could possibly be an extra terrestial being....who knows.. Maybe your mom's just not telling you?

3. How often does this happen? If frequently...you could make some GREAT MONEY!!! "Hey I bet that blindfolded I can touch _________ and tell you exactly what it is" You could join the Circus!!! '
4. Maybe see a dr if your concerned!!

I have never heard of that-tasting through your fingers. Although sometimes I think that things can taste the way other things smell, so I guess it's not that far-fetched. Has this been going on long? Have you seen a doctor for it? Are you human? :)
