Make yourself a plan first so that you don't end up homeless in California.
Save up 6 months worth of salary, then quit and move.
Finding a job after you get there may be easier in some repsects, but if you have a large gap in your employment history (more than a month without a job), that will make you less attractive to potential employers.
Also, if you are a church member or active in any organizations or activities now, make sure you consider finding your new place near to where you are going to be most active outside of the job. Please don't fall into the trap of finding a place to live close to a job because you'll end up, over time, spending more time and energy focusing on that job than on what you really love.

Good paying jobs seem hard to find in my line of work. Good paying jobs I like are harder to find.
If you move to CA, look at your expenses. The incredibly outlandish real estate values seem very off-putting to me. Other than high-priced real estate, mudslides, smog, fires, and earthquakes, CA actually does seem like an excellent place to live.

I just moved to CA and now realize you need alot more money to live here!!! So unless you have something set up, I'd save alot of $$$ before quitting and moving!!!!!

I wouldn't recommend Ca to anyone! It's over populated, smoggy, self absorbed and traffic ridden.
Yes, I live here. Yes, I would love to leave, but my husbands' job makes it impossible.

no we already have too many people and the cost of living sucks! an individual who makes less than $15 or so an hour prolly could not make it here and be comfortable.
Its beautiful here, but its like living on a damn postcard.
