The best lesson we can learn is the immutable law most aptly set down by George Santayana: "Those who do not learn from the past are condemned to repeat it."
Especially those who quack out the same old tired slogans about how religion can solve all of our problems...

I took a class at university named "The Sociology of Espionage: The Politics of Lying". It was THE best class of my career. It identified methods of concealing information and spinning a story to produce a desired result.
When this whole Iraq thing began to boil I reflected on that class and could see the writing on the wall.
The tricks and half-truths of previous wars and politicians have been revived......and the people took the bait.
We never seem to learn from our mistakes.

What we should learn and what we can learn are two different lessons...we should learn that neglect of the people in favor of war never ends well...shunning science and medicine as witchcraft is ignorant and dangerous, and the most dangerous threat to the human race is ignorance...what we will probably "learn" is that war brings glory despite the loss, science is an inside joke by heathens, and ignorance is bliss...good question...I hope I am wrong.
