There is no one true answer. A marriage is like a sculpture in a way you have to start with the right stone and tools and then let the stone tell you what it wants to be made into. A marriage has to be worked at not just allowed to happen. A person may fall into love but they have to keep swimming to keep it afloat...

trust, communication, having that alone space we all need it, honesty, being open to new ideas and trying new things, not being afriad to let your guard down, being able to depend on the other one when you need them and them you, having a friendship with eachother, know that a relationship starts when both feet hit the ground don't base it on good sex or looks or superficial things like that!
