A ten day period is extreme. Usually you will have a day or two of light bleeding and a day or two of heavy then a day to taper off (or about 3 - 5 days depending on your age, activity level and heredity. If your mom, aunts and gramma had it light, so should you. If they had it heavy, you probably will too.) But ten days every month sounds like you might have a female problem of some sort. Mine were real heavy as a teen ager and it turned out that I had endometriosis. If you are overweight it can make your periods heavy and irratic. Excessive dieting can make them dissappear (which is not a good thing either). Although we all can give you feed back here, I really think you need to go see a doctor. Heavy bleeding can be a sign of several female problems and its not good to risk not knowing. The sooner the problem is found the sooner you can get it fixed.

I get 7 days of bleeding. Usually pretty consistent, though there are some clots. But before birth control i would go 6 weeks between periods. That was a natural thing for me

yes I had extreme periods when I was younger and had to be put on birth-control to regulate it enough that i could live a normal life
I would bleed for 25- 35 days straight with a 2-5 day stop between. I'm not talking about spotting, I would soak 12- 15 overnight pads a day, everyday
after birth control I went down to 10 day periods every 30 days (still bleeding heavy)
after ten years of hormone therapy I finally have normal periods (bleed for three days spot for two every 28 days like clockwork)
I went off the birth-control pills 3 years ago and am expecting my first child :)

First era ought to very last a week or 2. Your body has to regulate. I used to have tremendous heavy classes at the same time as i replaced into first starting up out, yet as I were given older, were given married and began taking birth control pills my classes were given a lot lighter. I in reality have mine 3-4 days now, now and again 5. they're significantly better everyday, merely provide your body time. 2 days isn't not frequently time sufficient!
