i got a 5-speed 4x4 dodge dakota, it also makes a metallc humming noise from the rear while driving. i was thinking universal joints? what do you guys think?

i changed the u-joint and it wasnt it

It could be the U-Joints. They are easy enough to check. Also check the motor and trans mounts.

That is the right guess, your joints are making the sound, and also the humming sound comes from the outer joint when it is over used, the gap between the contacts becomes bigger enough to make it humm all the time,

Yep, it's the spetzer valve. I'm going to need some 30 weight oil and some cotton balls.
Otherwise, you should be able to grab your drive shaft and check for excessive looseness.

put grease in the U-joint first, look for metal shaving for damage, if you grab the joint and if it loose change it. harzard

probably the rear end or uv joint
